Dr. Abdullah Sulaiman Al-Abri, Vice President for Sustainability, joined SOHAR Port and Freezone in May 2024. In this role, he is driving significant advancements in the organization’s sustainability initiatives, establishing SOHAR as a frontrunner in sustainable development within the region.

With a robust background as an international consultant specializing in energy, technology, and investment, Dr. Abdullah has previously represented Oman at prestigious organizations such as the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). His expertise has been instrumental in promoting Oman’s hydrogen economy and broader energy transition pathways for producer economies.

One of his key objectives at SOHAR is to develop international trade corridors for new energies and clean hydrogen. This project involves navigating complex regulatory, investment and logistical challenges, showcasing Dr. Abdullah’s exceptional professional network and strategic acumen.

Dr. Abdullah holds a Ph.D. in Reservoir Engineering from Curtin University of Technology, where his thesis focused on enhanced gas condensate recovery by CO2 injection. He also earned an M.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot-Watt University and a B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manchester. His previous positions include Energy Renewal Director at Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) and Consultant at the IEA, where he led pivotal energy transition projects.

Beyond his professional commitments, Dr. Abdullah is passionate about coaching and mentoring, valuing the insights gained through collaborative dialogue. In his leisure time, he enjoys reading on economic and technological advancements and engaging in outdoor activities such as hiking and cycling.

Looking ahead, Dr. Abdullah aims to influence energy trade and policy dialogues at both local and regional levels while furthering sustainable development at SOHAR Port and Freezone. His dedication to innovation and sustainability positions him to make a meaningful impact in the organization and the broader business landscape.
