The Asian Shipowners’ Association (ASA) is a voluntary organisation of the shipowner associations of Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and the Federation of ASEAN Shipowners’ Associations (FASA), comprising shipping associations of ASEAN countries, consisting of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The objectives of the ASA are to act as a channel to convey Asian Shipowners’ voices to the international shipping community as well as to enhance and strengthen the ASA’s stature. As countries in the Middle East continue to enhance and develop infrastructure, their maritime presence is gaining traction. Established in 2016, in accordance with an Emiri decree by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, as an independent, non-governmental, non-profit institution, the Emirates Maritime Arbitration Centre (EMAC) fills the geographical gap for specialised maritime arbitration between East and West.
