Savraj is a Master Mariner, twelve years at sea. Joined as a cadet in 1975. One of the shipping industry’s youngest Masters at the age of 27. Four years command with Dempo Steamships. Savraj joined NorthStandard in 1995 and had overall responsibility for the Underwriting Department until 2019. Savraj was then elevated to his current role as Chief Commercial Officer. Prior to joining the Club, he spent twelve years at sea, sailing as Master for four years, before coming ashore to work with shipowners as Marine Superintendent and Operations Manager.

He obtained his LLB in 1998. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, Company of Master Mariners and The Nautical Institute. As a Member of NorthStandard’s Executive Team, Savraj works with the Managing Directors and Ship Owner Board of Directors to formulate and implement the Group’s global business and underwriting strategy.

He is responsible for developing NorthStandard’s business all over the world. The Club now has a majority share of the Middle East/Indian shipping market including: Saudi Arabia, Oman, Abu Dhabi and United Arab Emirates. Savraj also works extensively in the Greek and European market as well.

India’s National Maritime Day Celebrations Committee conferred the Eminent Overseas Maritime Personality Award on North P&I Club’s Captain Savraj Mehta, on the occasion of the 56th National Maritime Day Celebrations 2019. The Eminent Overseas Maritime Personality Award recognises and honours individuals for their sustained and outstanding contribution to the maritime sector.
